Coming straight out of department work in SAC, Harshit, the coordinator of the Department of Firewallz, described his department’s work and his experiences as coordinator.
Primarily responsible for the registration process during BOSM, Firewallz’s work can be described as the first wall of defence against potential mishaps during the fest. The members of Firewallz are the first people contingents meet, upon their entry into the campus. Apart from conducting security checks and verifying credentials, members of Firewallz also provide participants with temporary identification cards for their participation in events.
In addition, Firewallz’s work this year has expanded to conducting checks during events to detect cases of malpractice. They do this by checking the bags of participants, and interrogation, if necessary. Harshit proceeded to narrate an incident from an earlier BOSM, when a college brought professional athletes from outside their college, to have an edge over the other contingents. While most participants have been cooperative with Firewallz’s volunteers, the volunteers have been trained to handle cases to the contrary.
Harshit claims to have had a great experience so far as a coordinator, with 17 new recruits who work diligently despite commitments with other clubs.
On that note the conversation ended, and the hardworking coordinator returned to his department—continuing the work he’d paused, for the interview.
