The Department of Firewallz handles registrations for outstation visitors, guests, stall staff, and sponsors. They also take care of night patrolling and passes for external vehicles during the fest. Achyutha Yeswanth Sriraj, the Oasis coordinator of the Firewallz, sat with the OEP to discuss his department’s work for Oasis.
He said that their top priority is to make sure that the fest proceeds smoothly and that the safety of the participants is not compromised. With tight work schedules, the department has little time to spare to actually experience the fest.
Speaking about their learning experience from BOSM, Achyutha elaborated on an incident of mismanagement where several buses with outstation participants had to be stalled at the main gate. This was to avoid overcrowding at Gym-G, where there was widespread confusion about the mode of payment for mess coupons. He added that the participants had been frustrated after having been made to wait for several hours.Â
He explained how it is unreasonable to expect new recruits to have the knowledge to handle situations that the seniors themselves had to find out on their own. As a coordinator, he can only explain their plan of action to them and ask them to prepare for the worst of situations. However, he said that despite the tense incidents and sleepless nights, it is his and the other seniors’ job to keep team morale high at all times and he feels that it will all be worth it when Oasis goes as planned without hiccups.
