With Oasis ’25 just around the corner, the Oasis English Press sat down with Nikith Deepthimahanthi, the Coordinator of the Department of Firewallz, to discuss their plans for the upcoming fest.

Nikith said that the major role of the department begins as soon as the fest starts. He said that Firewallz is the first body to receive any participants or guests who arrive on campus. They are responsible for validating the registrations,  frisking, and then sending them on to further booths. He elaborated that other than this, they also patrol the concerts and maintain security throughout the fest. They coordinate with other departments to maintain smooth operations. Nikith added that the major difficulties they faced were overcrowding, substance abuse during the concerts,  and people intruding into the VIP section.

 When asked about his role as a Coordinator, Nikith mentioned that despite it being very hectic during the fest, he enjoys the responsibility. Praising his team, he stated that they can handle most of the job by themselves. The pre-fest work, according to Nikith, included the design and painting of their panel, which is traditional for them. Additionally, he stated that to keep morale high, the department usually engages in playing board games or outdoor sports together. Nikith advised his successors to maintain close relations with the juniors to ensure the smooth functioning of the department.

Nikith concluded by encouraging the students to acknowledge the importance of the department and advised them to maintain proper regulations and guidelines during the fest.
