With Oasis ‘24 around the corner, the Oasis English Press sat down with Tarun G, the Coordinator of the Department of Lights, to understand more about the work they do for the fest.
Tarun explained that the department controlled the stage lighting in the auditorium for various events. He shared that they used a stage controller that could adjust settings of the different lights present there, such as the spotlight or the LEDs. He further mentioned that the department did not organise events; rather, it helped other clubs with their lighting requirements. They assisted in events that were held in the auditorium, including the Inauguration Ceremony and other events such as Choreo, Stage Play, and more.
Regarding their workload during Oasis, Tarun mentioned that the members of the department had extremely long working hours due to the nature of their tasks on stage. To ensure that everything ran smoothly, they underwent rigorous practice with the various clubs they collaborated with at least three days prior to Oasis.
When asked about the challenges faced by the department, he said that they were yet to face any as their preparations had not started yet, however, he did provide an insight on the prospective issues that his team could face. He highlighted ever since the renovation had taken place, the number of lights that were under their control had reduced. This led to a restricted amount of lighting during BOSM.
When questioned about his thoughts on this year’s Oasis theme, Regal Roulette, Tarun mentioned that he liked last year’s theme (Grimoire Galore) better as it coincided rightly with Halloween. He also remarked that he was looking forward to more casino-themed events. He concluded by saying that he hoped that all BITSians would enjoy and actively participate in Oasis.
