Department of Live Events

With only a few days left for Oasis, many feel like the fest cannot arrive fast enough. The Oasis English Press (OEP) sat down to speak with Tanish Bansal, coordinator for the Department of Live Events (DLE). The department will organise three major events—EDM x Hip Hop Nite, Bollywood Nite, and N2O. EDM x Hip Hop Nite will be conducted in collaboration with the Association of Rock (ARBITS) on November 21, featuring two major artists, Sevenn and Seedhe Maut, in South Park.

The department is organising a Hindi Prof Show on November 22, where Amit Trivedi—a popular musical performer—is scheduled to perform. Tanish mentioned that this show would be the headliner of Oasis. Comedians Samay Raina and Gaurav Kapoor are invited for N2O (a stand-up comedy). Tanish informed the OEP that DLE is working with the Hindi Activities Society (HAS) for the event, which will take place on November 23.

The Department of Live Events and the Department of Stage Controls are collaborating to organise events in both the Auditorium and the Rotunda. Tanish said that their department’s main work was contacting the artists’ managers.

Even though this is the first time DLE has collaborated with other clubs, Tanish said that the process had been completely hassle-free. He was very confident about their work and insisted that ‘this is going to be one of the best production setups Oasis has seen.’ He was also happy about the number of artists coming this year (seven), which has considerably increased from the last Oasis (four).

Speaking about his experience, Tanish mentioned feeling exhilarated yet intimidated. This would be the first Oasis after 2019, and while Tanish is happy to be a coordinator, there is a slight pressure to set a benchmark for upcoming fests. To cope with the pressure, he tries not to think of the responsibilities and ‘go with the flow.’ His main goal is to give his best at every point without worrying too much about the outcome.

As a parting note, Tanish urged every BITSian to ‘attend every prof show this year because they will be great.’
