Ashay Anurag, the CoSSAcn of the Dept. of Publications and Correspondence (PCr), was busy on the phone when he stepped out of SAC to talk to the BOSM English Press. A couple of minutes later, he found himself at a table outside FoodKing talking about the fest and everything that goes into making it possible.
PCr is responsible for registering and notifying participants of their selection. ‘We ensure we get participation of sufficient quality and number’, Ashay said. PCr is also the channel through which all fest-related publications happen. They manage the department, club, and team snaps as well. Unlike most departments and clubs, PCr has no work during the fest. ‘Our work is really hectic in the week before BOSM. But during BOSM, we get to relax and have fun’, said Ashay.
Although around 2500 registrations have been received, only around 1300 of those will be confirmed due to the limited accommodation available. Hence, PCr is forced to convince people to register only to eventually reject them. Even when a team is rejected, good relations need to be maintained so as to ensure so that registrations happen smoothly in the subsequent year. ‘Participants always have a hundred different demands. It’s hard to sell a fest but it’s even harder to sell it to people who have already been rejected once’, remarked Ashay. Even though the turnout expected is almost as same as that of last year’s, PCr is bringing in international participants from Sri Lanka this time. ‘We’ve also ensured that we get healthier participation in the less popular sports’, said Ashay.
Being a CoSSAcn has been a new and unique experience for Ashay. ‘It feels like an augmented version of all that I’ve experienced in the last three years. It’s exciting to work with people who have completely different duties towards the fest’, he said. Even though juggling his obligations to the CoSSAc and to PCr is difficult, he claims his juniors have made the job easy for him.
‘This time, we have good teams coming in for all the sports. We also have a free stand-up comedy show by Rahul Subramaniam and Sumit Anand, and better Virtual Reality events. So, I urge everyone to go out and have fun’, concluded Ashay as he finally answered his phone which had been ringing incessantly for the past five minutes.
