Department of Publications & Correspondence

With BITS Open Sports Meet (BOSM) just around the corner, the BOSM English Press approached Kuhuk Agarwal—CoSSAcn of the Department of Publications and Correspondence (PCr)—who took time out of her hectic schedule for an interview about the involvement of the department in BOSM.

One of PCr’s major responsibilities is outreach. They contact colleges and universities, initiate registration for BOSM and handle the payment process for participating teams. They also fulfil all the printing requirements of every club and department on campus. A new element in this edition of BOSM is the incorporation of a design team, something which they’ve not had for BOSM since the pre-COVID era.

Considering the scale of the operations the department performs, smooth coordination between all members and with other organisations is imperative. Talking about this, Kuhuk said that they’ve had constant work meets, with the first of these occurring in July, during the summer break. She emphasises that constant interactions and meetings are necessary given the nature of the work done as it is not an easy task to reach out to colleges and ask them to register and follow proper procedures, especially for department members who were recruited after the conduct of the last Fest.

Speaking of the challenges faced, Kuhuk pointed out that this year’s preparation faced several setbacks. The registration of colleges and their teams has a set order of events, beginning with registration, followed by the appointment of college representatives and team captains, locking of team members, and finally, payment of the registration fee. This linear order was disrupted this year due to the CUET exam being reconducted. This caused complications in Delhi University colleges as their team recruitments were delayed which had a cascading effect on team confirmations coming in which led to registration, representative selection, and team formation all taking place simultaneously. Further problems were caused by the CRC’s show-cause notice to the Student Union President, and the financial restrictions placed by them. This caused a hindrance in the payment process, causing it to be done concurrently with everything else.

Despite hurdles, the department is working with fervour to ensure the fest begins smoothly. Their campus workings are proceeding without issues, with all print requirements being fulfilled on time. Talking about her experience as CoSSAcn, Kuhuk says it has been an overwhelming, yet exciting one. It was very difficult to manage all the issues which came up, but it was equally relieving to see them be resolved. She hopes that everything continues to go smoothly, and if problems occur, they are cleared up just as efficiently.
