The Oasis English Press sat down with the StuCCAn for the Department of Reception and Accommodation (RecNAcc), Angel Baby, as she spared some time from her demanding schedule to give an insight into the department’s work for Oasis.
RecNAcc is essentially responsible for the accommodation of all the outstation participants, artists, guests, and chairpersons. Moreover, they are also responsible for the procurement and management of the materials required by every club or department during the fest. ‘For instance, the department of Art, Design and Publicity (ADP) requires a lot of lighting to decorate the paths, and that’s on us.’ Angel explained.
Currently, RecNAcc is in negotiations with multiple departments and clubs about the inventory required by them. Angel mentioned that the department would be setting up tents for the food stalls and sponsor stalls alongside common rooms to accommodate the participants.
Angel explained that pre-fest work involves floating out forms for gauging inventory requirements as well as the number of outstation participants. Upon getting responses, they negotiate with the vendors around Pilani to try and get the best rates possible.
A major part of RecNAcc’s job is to coordinate with all the clubs and departments to ensure smooth functioning during the fest. They aim to be well-versed with the details of which chairpersons have been invited for events by various departments, which artists and which judges, and the dates and times of their planned arrival and departures.
When asked about the difficulties faced, Angel opined that Pilani’s infrastructure cannot keep up with the rapidly progressing magnitude of Oasis. She stated that as the fest is being conducted on a bigger scale every year, arranging accommodation and inventory gets increasingly difficult.
On a lighter note, Angel was very grateful for the bonds she had made with her seniors. ‘The feeling of belonging was very strong, and even in the online semesters people carried it forward’ she said. Her juniors in the department had also exceeded her expectations by being highly cooperative and delivering more than expected, she added. The learning experience for her had also been highly satisfactory and informative, teaching her how to deal with people, especially in the administrative sectors. She noted that the other members of the StuCCA body were commendable and very capable in their respective profiles.
