Department of Sounds

With Oasis ‘25 just around the corner, the Oasis English Press sat down with the Coordinator of the Department of Sounds, Palaash Saraf, to gather more information on their role in the fest.

Palaash explained that Sounds was simply a group of individuals fascinated by the intricacies of audio mixing and managing. These audiophiles worked behind the scenes to ensure clear sounds in various events which took place in the Main Auditorium. For Oasis this year, they would work on the Inauguration, of which the most complicated part would be  Music Club’s performance. He elaborated that these events had dozens of raw, unprocessed inputs which they received to work with on the audio console to make the final output sound good. He added that they required minimal preparatory work, as all members were well versed with the equipment. The club did run-throughs on the days leading up to the fest to ensure the event goes smoothly.

Palaash informed that a major setback faced had always been and would continue to be the old equipment they work with. He mentioned that the equipment in the main auditorium was ‘at least a couple of decades old’ and required a major overhaul, but they had not been able to procure the funding for the same.

On a parting note, he advised every BITSian to not miss out on the Inauguration and Rocktaves, which is India’s largest semi-professional rock competition.
