Department of Visual Media

The APOGEE English Press (AEP) sat down with Tarun S, the CoStAAn of the Department of Visual Media (DVM), to gain an insight into their work for the upcoming fest.

Tarun explained that the technical aspects of the fest ranging from the official APOGEE app to websites for specific events such as Aarohan, came under DVM’s purview.

When asked if DVM was doing something new this year, Tarun elaborated that an inventory portal had been introduced for club coordinators to keep track of, exchange, and manage their Students’ Union inventory. He further explained DVM was also building a new portal to sell merchandise designed by the Department of Art, Design and Publicity (ADP). He mentioned that this was done to address the lack of access to student-made merchandise for alumni. He shared that this time a poll would also be available on the official APOGEE app to vote on memes made by the Public Policy Club for their event called Mimocracy.

He stated that they had built the Food Fest app from scratch, hence developing two apps in one semester. He also mentioned that they had finished producing the APOGEE theme reveal by the previous Oasis, something that had not been done post-COVID.

Tarun expressed gratitude towards his juniors and batchmates in DVM for making these achievements possible.  He explained that the department had not faced any hiccups in its preparations for APOGEE so far.

Tarun shared his concerns about APOGEE being ‘Oasified’. While he agreed that events like hackathons required some prerequisites to participate, he pointed out that APOGEE had events where workshops were organised prior to the competition. On a parting note, he urged students not to see APOGEE as a three-day holiday but as a learning opportunity.
