The Department of Visual Media (DVM), is a StuCCAn department which works on the technical aspects of the fest, from the official website and app to internal management solutions. The DVM StuCCAn, Arjun Tyagi, sheds light on the work done by the department this Oasis.

Prior to the fest, their major work includes making the official Oasis website, the Oasis app, promotional videos and software used for internal coordination among departments. Their work starts more than a semester before Oasis with the release of the Oasis theme video and the introductory website for Oasis. They also continued in their development of RegSoft (Registration Software), which is used by departments to register outstation participants. The EMS (Event Management System) software used by clubs and departments for their events during the fest was also developed by them. They also provide support for them throughout the fest. They also make the promotional videos and record the prof. shows and popular Oasis events for later viewing by BITSians.

The department is divided into five teams to handle their work: front-end, back-end, video, designing, and app development, with each team consisting of first and second year members. Third year members of the department oversee the work done and make sure everything runs smoothly.

On his role as StuCCAn, Arjun says, “Most of my work is in checking the feasibility of every initiative we come up with in the StuCCA meets and relaying it back to my team.” He feels that leading such a huge and diverse team is not easy, but it has been smooth sailing till now.

This year, DVM is trying to get Ethernet ports in the Auditorium and other places that don’t have any access to the web. While the department’s work requires no interactions the Institute as such, the SU has been very helpful with sorting out the budget and dealing with the Institute overall.

On a parting note, Arjun talks about the work the StuCCA has done to improve this fest. They are trying to remove stub culture from prof. shows and substitute them with ID cards to reduce the waiting time for entry. “Every year we try to provide a better experience than the previous year. This year we have good prof. shows lined up, with something for every BITSian. I would also like to encourage BITSians to participate in more events, which is something lacking in the fest overall,” he says.
