With APOGEE 2023 just round the corner, The English Press Club sat down with the APOGEE Coordinator of the EEE Association, Shreyes and discussed their workings for the fest.
The Association is organizing two completely new events for this year’s APOGEE: Arduino Challenge and Room of Amusement.
Arduino Challenge is an event targeting beginners wherein participants would be taught Arduino for a short duration of time and then given an easy level problem statement.
Room of Amusement, in collaboration with the Physics Association, is a stall where several inventions like Van de Graff generator and Plasma ball would be presented. ‘If you touch the Van de Graff generator, your hair will start standing. If you touch a plasma ball, sparks will flow into your hands. If you miss it, you’re definitely going to miss some fun’, said Shreyes while speaking about the event.
Both the events are in accordance with the theme of APOGEE 2023; Hivemind Genesis, as participants would share with each other and learn from the Association as well. ‘Within the team also, they would talk and increase their knowledge, so it is definitely a hivemind,’ he explained.
The preparatory work in the days leading up to the fest involves construction of the instruments such as a Tesla coil and a Van de Graff generator from about 10 days prior. The junior members of the association are also being taught Arduino as preparation for the Arduino Challenge.
The main difficulty which Shreyes foresees encountering is if people already proficient at Arduino participate in the event, it might give them an edge over the beginners. Nevertheless, it is an event aiming to give hands on experience and entertainment for all participants.
He concluded the interview by appreciating the successful collaboration between the EEE and Physics Associations, and mentioned the effective communication between the two coordinators.
