With Oasis just around the corner, the Oasis English Press got a chance to speak with Mr. Aditya Vasudevan, the incredibly busy coordinator of the English Language Activities Society.

Mr. Vasudevan, who is known for prioritizing ELAS over tech teams said that his priority this semester is to prove to the good people of BITS that entertainment quizzing is the best form of quizzing there is. In that vein, this year is special for ELAS because they’ve decided to organize a total of six quizzes (an increase from the usual numbers) in hopes of increasing attendance.

The quizzes this year include the Entertainment quiz, the Oasis quiz, the Theme quiz, the “Utsav Ajay” quiz, the Travel and Living quiz, and the famous ARBITS-ELAS quiz, the last of which has managed to generate massive shockwaves in the BITSian quizzing and musical circles. According to Mr. Vasudevan, to be able to have people like Anirudh “Sax” Menon dedicate their lives to being rock stars while also managing to be good quizzers is rare. In addition, ELAS has also managed to coax Kushan Patel to come all the way to Pilani yet again so he can conduct the Oasis and Travel quizzes. 

Besides quizzes, ELAS also plans to pull off the greatest Wordstock this campus has ever seen. Channeling one’s love for words during Oasis is often what one needs to do to attain stardom in the venerable circles of EPC, ELAS, and Matrix.

With regard to the theme, the club had no trouble embracing Neon-Noir. Mr. Smax “Bobz” Bhardwaj was particularly ecstatic when he heard that ELAS could improve his entertainment quiz by incorporating theme-based questions in the event. “Oasis quizzing can only be MELA…” is what we believe his exact words were. Mr. Vasudevan hopes that this year, people channel their inner pop culture spirits and produce a bout of grand quizzing in the many entertainment quizzes that are on offer this Oasis.

Towards the end of the interview—having abandoned all pretense—Mr. Vasudevan clarified that the general public does not stand a chance against ELAS quizzers, but also that they should nevertheless attend these quizzes to embrace the occasion of their defeat.
