With Oasis just two weeks away, Arpit Sharma, coordinator for Embryo Club, is on a tight schedule. However, he managed to spare a few moments from his schedule to speak to the Oasis English Press about the club’s activities leading up to, and during the fest.
Customarily Embryo is responsible for inviting eminent personalities for the “Oasis Talk”, which is held right after the inauguration of the fest. ‘Keeping in mind the theme for this Oasis, we have invited Mr. Abhishek Chaubey for the event.’ says Arpit. Abhishek Chaubey is an acclaimed film maker, with offbeat movies like Udtaa Punjab and Ishqiya to his credit. ‘We considered many personalities related to counter cultures. In the end we finalized Mr. Chaubey, who we think is the epitome of counter culture in the Indian Film industry’ adds Arpit. Mr Chaubey is also set to grace Cine glitz, the inaugural event of BITS Pilani’s first film festival ,titled as The Film Festival, Oasis 2018.
Arpit explained that the club’s work begins 3 months prior to the fest and mainly involves shortlisting, contacting eminent personalities, and finalizing the dates. ‘Now that the fest is upon us, work is mostly limited to publicizing the event’ says Arpit.
The work during the fest is planned and supervised by the core team comprising of third-year students. The second years serve as the primary workforce, and first years assist their seniors in groundwork and establishing contact with the right agencies.
Talking about his experience as a coordinator, Arpit said the responsibility has helped him learn how to interact professionals with ease. He believes he is set to gain a lot about publicity and event management, as the work is now focused on publicizing the event.
Talking about the his favourite prospectives, Arpit believes that Oasis 2018 shall stand to be a special one. He claims that the concept of ‘counter culture’ is ingrained in the BITSian attitude. ‘In BITS we like to do things differently. The fest this year expresses just that. Hence everybody will enjoy to the fullest.’
