English Language Activities Society (ELAS) is the club known for conducting brain-wrecking quizzes throughout the year. The club coordinator, Naveen Unnikrishnan, was gracious enough to give us some time out of his extremely busy schedule to talk about the club’s role in BOSM.
ELAS will be conducting 3 quizzes this BOSM—a cricket quiz, a football quiz, and a general sports quiz. The quizzes will be hosted by ELAS members, much to the disappointment of quizzers (all kinds). Two external quizmasters, Mr. Ramesh Natarajan and Mr. Rohit Suresh, both well-known figures in the quizzing circuit, have been tasked with setting questions. Both the quizmasters hail from Chennai, much to the sorrow of all water-loving Kannadigas and water-hating Malayalees, and are active in the regional circuit.
Leading up to the fest, ELAS looks for quizmasters and ensures that everything stays within the budget allotted by the CoSSAc, although we aren’t quite sure what they need the money for. Members also coordinate with the quizmasters to make sure that the question sets are prepared on time. Other pre-fest work is mostly logistical and is handled by the joint coordinator and the joint coordinator only.
In conclusion, Naveen said that now that since most of pre-fest work is done, the club can focus on more important things like self-esteem issues. The most affected member of the club, Mr. Pinay Vai, claims that joining this club has brought him some closure, after the disastrous incident in the previous year, when he was ragged by a first-year student. The club has been more active this year, and by some hoളy blessing, has witnessed increased participation from the students. Concluding, he described some salient features of quizzes this year, which include them being held during non-academic hours, and in air-conditioned classrooms, so all students are begged to attend.
