The English Language Activities Society (ELAS) is known for its engaging and stimulating quizzes. The APOGEE English Press sat down with Aditya Bhaskar, the ELAS coordinator, to discuss the role of the club in the upcoming fest.
Aditya shared that ELAS has planned four captivating events this year—Brain of BITS (BoB), Overhead Transmission, Business Quiz, and SciTech. BoB is the general legacy quiz of ELAS with a rolling trophy dating back to the 1970s. As per tradition, the solo quiz will be hosted by the winner of last year, Gandhar Kulkarni. Overhead Transmission, a general quiz, will be hosted by Major Chandrakant Nair, a reputed quizmaster and a regular at ELAS events. Business Quiz, as the name suggests, pertains to finance and will be hosted by Aryapriya Ganguly. SciTech is the in-house quiz prepared and hosted by the members of ELAS, which is focused on science and technology.
Aditya explained that behind the scenes, the preparatory work of ELAS involves brainstorming, shortlisting, vetting, and rehearsing questions for SciTech. He noted that as external quizmasters conduct the other quizzes, ELAS mainly has to coordinate logistics with them. Reflecting on the evolution of the club and his time as the coordinator, Aditya mentioned that this APOGEE would be his third fest as the coordinator, and he expects it to surpass its predecessors as the team is more experienced. Aditya highlighted the smooth collaboration with the CoStAA and expressed optimism about the conduct of the events.
When asked about his advice for the participants, he emphasised that prior knowledge is not a barrier. The quizzes test logic, deduction, and basic knowledge, making them accessible and enjoyable for a wide range of participants.
On a concluding note, Aditya urged the students to stay on campus for APOGEE, attend the events, explore the technical fest, and have fun.
