Fashion Club

Neil Ghevade, the coordinator of the Fashion Club sat down with the Oasis English Press for a quick chat on the club’s preparation for Oasis.

This year at Oasis 2022, Fashion Club will be organizing ‘Fiesta de Neon’, a party with a neon theme where people are free to come and dance. The event would be held at SAC where radium bracelets and other accessories would be provided by the club along with acrylic paints. Although the event is not directly related to the theme of the 50th Oasis, Demesne of the Lost Gold, Neil stated that the intent was to get a new concept. A neon event was not something that BITSians were very familiar with.

The preparatory work commenced with deciding upon a colour theme. After that, the club got into negotiations with vendors to procure UV lights, the most essential equipment for this event according to Neil. They also went through similar events that were conducted during APOGEE and discovered that the lack of food arrangements was an issue. ‘After spending 3-4 hours dancing, you are hungry, you just want food’, Neil shared. The club got into negotiations with dealers like Looters to resolve this. However, when they talked to the Students’ Union, the SU proposed that they would handle the catering on a large scale since a lot of other events had also put forth their intent to serve food. They also decided to cover the area with graffiti art and give a special shoutout to the 50th edition of Oasis.

Talking about the mishaps he wants to avoid, Neil said he’s concerned about the UV lights breaking due to the lack of replacements available. Another thing that could spoil any party is if a fight breaks out, but Neil concurs that that is something to be dealt with on the spot. Barring these, he is confident that the club has planned well and that not much could go wrong.

When asked about what he would like to share with BITSians aspiring to join the fashion club, Neil said, ‘There are two things I’d like to recommend, one is if you’re hardworking, you can really do well in this club because the seniors are very supportive over here. The second thing is that if there is any issue that has been created by you please just admit it at that point in time. The seniors have always said ‘it’s okay, we’ll figure it out.’ People hustle, and genuine mistakes are fine so that’s not something to worry about.’
