While nothing major happened on the evening of 7th May, a sandstorm followed by a thunderstorm at night caused the protestors to temporarily relocate to VKB Mess, where mattresses were brought. Numerous students spent the night there studying, and in the morning, the protestors migrated to the Auditorium. Due to the protest (and the harsh weather), the examination scheduled to take place at 8 am on the 8th (Tuesday) was delayed by three hours. To show their solidarity, many students were clad in black for their exams.
The protest, after not getting the desired response from the authorities, has taken a more symbolic route. The #ChangeForAChange movement began late this morning, with protestors “donating” loose change in bowls which were kept outside the offices of the administrators. This was in response to the view that the Institute views the students as nothing more than “annual cash cows”.
A meeting between the Directors of all campuses and BITSAA International is scheduled to take place shortly. Namburi also informed the crowd that the Vice-Chancellor has been admitted to AIIMS Delhi for high BP.
The protests have continued to gain support from people in no way associated with the campus. News anchors like Rajdeep Sardesai and Burkha Dutt tweeted their support, along with Yogendra Yadav, AAP-Rajasthan, and Shashi Tharoor. The news agency ANI also tweeted about the protests.
Several news agencies like The Logical Indian, The Hindu, The Deccan Chronicle, and many others have talked about the protest.
