The Film Making Club, BITS Pilani has a mountain of expectations to conquer this Oasis. Since its inception in 2010, the club has grown by leaps and bounds, produced quality content and exceeded all expectations. “This semester has been the busiest the club has ever seen”, says Nikhil Vinay Sharma, the Oasis Coordinator for the Film Making Club, popularly called FMaC. The club has been working rigorously and all members have been busy with one project or the other for Oasis.
The club’s projects were extremely well received last year, with videos like the GoT and House of Cards curtain raisers for the fest. The club has taken an ambitious route by scaling up the projects from last year and this year, the club plans 5 pre-fest videos, which will comprise curtain raisers, collaboration videos with other clubs, and videos which will build up the hype for the fest. FMaC tries to attempt a different film making style every year, and this year will be no different, says Nikhil and aptly advises to brace ourselves for surprises.
Other than the pre-fest videos, FMaC will host Metamorphosis, a short film making competition themed “Mokita” and Apt to Act, a fun on-the-spot acting event. Metamorphosis is a highly anticipated event every year which attracts filmmakers from all over the country. Out of all the entries, 15 short films will be selected and screened to the distinguished judges: The Morpheous Productions. This is the third year that FMaC is hosting this event and the number of entries has been growing at an exponential rate.
Apart from the pre-fest videos, FMaC, like every year, will be making the official Oasis After-Movie. What’s different this year? “This year we will be collaborating with Incredible Photographers, the people who made the Tomorrowland 2016 aftermovie”, exclaims Nikhil. Talk about raising the bar! Apart from all the events they’re hosting individually, FMaC is collaborating with MATRIX and HAS to host a film festival during Oasis.
As you can guess, the club has a lot on its plate this year. Taking up the challenge, Nikhil, who’s fondly referred to as the Scorsese of the club, says that he’s benefitted a lot from handling the pressure of living up to people’s expectations. To balance academics, especially EEE, with the responsibility of being the club coordinator has taught him how fleeting time is and how essential it is to learn how to play around and manage it. As a result, he has had to sacrifice his role in the creative aspect of the club and work more as an administrator than a creator. Nikhil, however has had an amazing experience managing everything and has taken the club to an entirely new level with the magnitude of the projects attempted this time around.
