The Oasis English Press sat down with Maaz Husain, the coordinator of the Film Making Club (FMaC), to learn more about the club and its preparations for the upcoming fest.
FMaC will be presenting a catalogue of multifaceted events, under the umbrella of ‘The Film Festival,’ for Oasis ’22. The third edition of the Film Festival will include Metamorphosis, a short filmmaking competition which is being organised in association with MATRIX and Photog. The theme for the competition this year is ‘The Butterfly Effect.’ The club is also organising a movie screening with the director of the said film in attendance as the Guest of Honour.
FMaC will also host events in collaboration with other clubs and departments, such as a theatre workshop with the Hindi Drama Club (HDC), a photo gallery with Photog, an art gallery with the Creative Activities Club (CrAC), and ‘Filmy Muqabla’ —a quizzing event focussed on Bollywood movies—with the Hindi Activities Society (HAS). Two new events, ‘Les Quizzerables’ and Uncharted have also been introduced this year.
Maaz admitted that the club faced several challenges due to the loss of continuity caused by the pandemic. ‘With little experience and intel, the task of organising an extensive programme did seem daunting, but the team is working hard to fill any cracks.’ he explained.
FMac is also in charge of shooting the Oasis Aftermovie—a short documentary to offer a compact glimpse into the fest—for which it is already preparing sponsored equipment and has started with a pre-shoot. Talking about the fest, Maaz finds the idea of such a colossal event being fully student-organised fascinating and his own experience as coordinator ‘insightful and worthy.’ With high anticipation surrounding the fest, FMac is in full swing to satisfy the audience and successfully showcase the beauty of visual art.
