With Oasis ’24 just around the corner, the Oasis English Press sat down with Samyak Jain, the Coordinator of the Filmmaking Club (FMaC), to have a conversation about their work in the fest.
Samyak said that FMaC would host various events under the Film Festival banner, namely, Metamorphosis, Hypercut, and Uncharted. He explained that Metamorphosis, their kernel event, was an online short-film making competition. Universities all over India are invited to the campus to participate in teams of four to ten. He added that the prize pool would be INR 40,000 and that they had also received a sponsorship of INR 50,000 by partnering with Civic Studios; a first for the club.
He described Hypercut to be an ad making competition that would be conducted online as well as offline. The contestants would be tasked to make thirty to sixty second ads on this year’s title sponsor, Myntra FWD and the prize pool would be distributed accordingly. Uncharted would entail an escape room containing hints and a trail of questions based on films. Samyak stated that the escape room would be ideal for cinephiles as well as casual viewers as the clues would not be very difficult. It would incorporate themes of poker and gambling to align with the theme of the fest.
When asked about his experience with the StuCCA and as a Coordinator, Samyak mentioned that he did not deal with any major challenges and that it was fun coordinating with all the participating clubs and departments. He highlighted that the morale of the club members has been great and that they are all very creative, adding their own elements to the fest.
On a parting note, Samyak said that he had high expectations from the fest and hoped that everyone enjoyed it.
