“Filmy Muqabala”, a Bollywood quiz, was conducted by the Hindi Activities Society (HAS) on Day 2. There were two parts to the event – Elims and Finals. Eighty-seven teams of two students each took part in the event, out of which seven teams made it to the finals. The event was a success as is evident from the footfall.
In the elims, there were seven rounds based on dialogues, anagrams, movie scenes, and characters. In the first round, the participants had to recognise movies from popular dialogues in that film. The second round required the participants to solve anagrams of movie titles, and the third round demanded them to identify famous but controversial personalities on the basis of the hints provided. The fourth round was all about identifying the Bollywood remakes of a few famous Hollywood movies. The fifth round, named “4 Connect”, involved connecting the four pictures shown to a particular film. The fifth and sixth rounds were called “Chronological” and “Character” rounds respectively. In the former, there were four jumbled movie scenes to be arranged in the order that they take place in the movie, and in the latter, there were three characters from a particular movie from which the title of the movie had to be determined. Papers were then taken for evaluation, and the answers were announced.
The teams underperformed in the finals that followed. After each round, there was a burglar question which was a combination of a buzzer, positive, and negative points. This combination left a lot of teams with zeroes and negative marks at different points during the quiz. The first and second rounds were the “character” and “chronological order” rounds. These were similar to their eliminator counterparts. A repeated question in the first round was caught by the students and generated much ire. The third round was based on video clips, where participants were made to watch a video and answer in rapid fire fashion. The last round was named “4 Connect” and worked the same way as the “4 Connect” round in the eliminator. The final points of the teams and the winners were then announced. The viewership of the event decreased over the time, and only a very small fraction of the initial audience remained for the finals.
