Football (Boys)- Deepak Saini

With BOSM 2024 just a few days away, the BOSM English Press interviewed Deepak Saini, Captain of the Boys’ Football Team to learn more about their preparation for the contest.

Deepak said that the team has six practice sessions a week, from Tuesday to Sunday. The sessions last almost three hours each and are conducted in the evening. They are divided into practising attacking strategy, practising defensive strategy, and improving physical fitness. Deepak stated that the players’ technical abilities have significantly improved due to the ‘rigorous’ training regimen.

Reflecting on the team’s recent achievements, Deepak mentioned that they won the sports tournament at IIT Bombay two years ago. In the previous two editions of InterBITS, the team advanced to the finals, marking a notable accomplishment.

Regarding competition at BOSM 2024, Deepak highlighted Sri Venkateswara College and Shri Ram College of Commerce—both in Delhi—as major rivals.

Deepak spoke about the challenges that the team faced in the weeks leading up to BOSM. He added that he faced a few issues dealing with the CoSSAC during the vacations wherein he had to contact them regarding the coach and other arrangements, but acknowledged that there is always a transition period between the old and new CoSSAC, which might have led to delays.

When asked about the team’s chances, he mentioned that the teams participating in BOSM this year were better than those in previous editions of the fest, and that Deepak is confident about their team’s chances of winning due to the chemistry, synergy, and level of understanding amongst the members of the team. He added that if they play with a strong, winning mentality, the team could fare higher than previous editions.

Deepak mentioned that being the captain has been a rewarding experience for him. He remarked that it has led to increased responsibility, which includes making some tough calls. However, he tries his best to consult all the members of the team and take actions in the best interests of the team.

In closing, Deepak advised fellow BITSians to pursue sports and also emphasised the importance of being physically active. He stressed that it is not necessary to be part of the team to play sports; instead, he encouraged everyone to have fun with their friends. Deepak concluded by saying that playing sports with your friends makes you happy and is a bonding experience.
