As BOSM draws near, the BOSM English Press had the opportunity to sit down with Himnish Taneja, the Coordinator of the Gaming Club, for a chat about their preparations for the upcoming sports fest.
Himnish relayed that the main event being conducted by the Gaming Club this BOSM would be an intra-campus Valorant Esports Tournament, sponsored by Riot Games and JioGames. For this, he said that twelve gaming PCs powered by MSI would be set up at the SAC main hall. He mentioned that while the club originally wanted to host an inter-college, pan-India esports tournament, the sponsors wished for it to be a ‘Campus Cup’ Valorant championship. The winner would advance to the nationwide grand finals with a large prize pool. Himnish said that the other event being conducted by the Gaming Club was a minigame tournament where fest-goers could compete online in mobile games like Mini Militia, Brawl Stars, and Clash Royale.
Regarding the changes in their work from last year, Himnish stated that the responsibility of operating the video games and consoles stall had been given to CRISS Robotics instead. According to him, this was due to a conflict between the Coordinators of the Gaming Club and the Sports Financial Committee (SFC) two years ago, due to which the club had been ‘blacklisted’. He added that the CoSSAc may still not have been able to ‘trust’ the Gaming Club this year due to their ‘past mistakes.’ Consequently, Himnish rued that the Gaming Club would not have a stall at BOSM 2025, but added that he was hopeful that they would have one next year. He remarked that a priority for the club this time would be the security of the expensive gaming setups, equipped with components like RTX 5070 graphics cards.
Himnish recounted that he had been preparing for the BOSM projects since mid-June, together with some of his seniors. He admitted that though they had faced some difficulties due to communication gaps with BOSM Sponz, they were quite happy with having planned such a ‘major’ event with the support of the CoSSAc.
Himnish said that being a Coordinator, especially in only his second year, had been rather hectic. He said that there had been a lot to learn along the way, and he hoped to gain experience for future fest work. This BOSM, his aim was to put on a successful event with his team, and to restore the Gaming Club to the BOSM Charter.
