Most people make their journey to campus via either Delhi or Jaipur. Pilani can be reached by cabs, buses, and trains, offering a wide variety of routes to choose from. Both Delhi and Jaipur are around 200 km away from the college campus, but the majority of BITSians prefer to make their journey via Delhi airport owing to the wide flexibility in flight timings.
On-Road
Cabs are readily available at both the Delhi and Jaipur airports at your convenience. However, you’ll need to pre-book them through travel agencies. The Students’ Union also offers a cab service, although its functionality fluctuates. You’d find yourself at the campus within 4–5 hours of starting your journey. When coming for the first time, arriving at the campus at around 10 or 11 AM is advised so you can experience it in all its glory (and heat). While low visibility on the roads at night was an issue in the past, proper lighting on highways has gotten rid of that problem.
From Delhi
Students frequently travel to campus via Delhi using four main routes:
- The Delhi Airport–Bahadurgarh–Jhajjar–Charkhi Dadri–Loharu–Pilani route, covering a distance of 180 km.
- The Delhi Airport–Gurgaon–Dharuhera–Rewari–Mahendragarh–Satnali–Loharu–Pilani route, spanning 202 km.
- The Delhi Airport–Bahadurgarh–Rohtak–Bhiwani–Loharu–Pilani route, with a total distance of 204 km.
- The Delhi Airport–Gurgaon–Dharuhera–Rewari–Narnaul–Singhana–Chirawa–Pilani route is approximately 210 km long.
Bus travel is also an option; you can find a comprehensive schedule on apps such as Redbus. Currently, two buses are available, one departing at 9:00 PM and the other at 10:30 PM. However, most people prefer to take trains or cabs when travelling via Delhi.
From Jaipur
Coming from Jaipur is a bit more restrictive. These are the routes available:
- The Jaipur Airport–Chomu–Reengus–Shrimadhopur–Udaipurwati–Ghuda Gorji–Sultana– Chirawa–Pilani route, covering a distance of 227 km.
- The Jaipur Airport–Chomu–Reengus–Sikar–Nawalgarh–Jhunjhunu–Chirawa–Pilani route is 236 km long.
When travelling via Jaipur, taking a bus instead of a train is advisable as the connectivity is much better, and several buses run between the two cities daily. However, one must keep in mind that the Rajasthan State Transportation Buses aren’t always on time and account for such delays in their travel plans. Most of these buses leave from the Sindhi Camp bus stand, which is a mere half hour away from the airport. The bus stand in Pilani is barely a two-minute walk from the campus’ main gate. Once again, it is recommended to check the schedule of these buses before choosing one.
Train Travel
The nearest train station is either at Loharu — 22.5 km away, or at Chirawa — 17.8 km away from Pilani. You’ll find local buses and cabs to Pilani from both stations at regular intervals.
The nearest station to the Delhi airport is the New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS), 16 km away. Trains running as early as 6:40 AM and as late as 11:35 PM are available and highly recommended. This is the preferred route by BITSians going back home via Delhi. A detailed train schedule from other stations is also available on the IRCTC website.
