Shashvat Singh, the Leader of the Google Developer Student Club (GDSC), BITS Pilani, sat down with the APOGEE English Press to discuss the club’s preparations for APOGEE 2023.
He spoke about how GDSC was relatively new compared to the many older, well-established tech-oriented clubs. He lauded his predecessors and credited their efforts for bringing the club to its present status.
Shashvat explained that GDSC will be organising four events this APOGEE. The first of them is Code Charades, a two-member team event, where one person explains the UI of an app or website and the other team member has to code it out. The next is Graphic Showdown, a graphic designing event where the participants must design a poster with the provided theme. The third event is Redesign the Web, where participants shall be asked to improve the Frontend and UI of an already existing site. Their fourth event is GrepCTF, a Capture the Flag event, is popular amongst the developer community.
Shashvat shared that despite starting from a technical background and lacking administrative skills, his experience as a coordinator has made him confident in his capabilities to manage the club. He also appreciated the contributions of his fellow club members, explaining how they actively take up responsibilities of their own volition.
When asked about his expectations from APOGEE, Shashvat mentioned that the registrations from outstation participants matched his expectations, and added that the ultimate expectation was to “have fun”. Shashvat said that ‘there is an event for every prospective career for every BITSian this APOGEE,’ and urged the students to attend and appreciate all the events.
