With the fest now just a few days away, the BOSM English Press sat down with Sheelvrat, the BOSM Coordinator for Gurukul. He began by explaining that this time, they were operating on a time crunch since practice had started later than expected. However, he was confident that despite this setback, they would be putting up ‘one heck of a performance with the way practice had been going.’
He noted that this time, their performance at the Inauguration would have a significant number of freshers performing, which was normally uncharacteristic of the club. This was a consequence of the club having recruited a record twenty freshers this semester, he remarked. Aside from the vocals workshop conducted this semester, their performance on Day Zero, along with Dhwani during the fest, would be the first action their instruments would see this semester. He added that he himself was a drummer and that he would be playing three songs during the performance.
He revealed that the process for formulating the setlist for an event like the Inauguration was ‘quite comprehensive.’ Everyone from the club pooled their suggestions through a form, along with recommendations from former members of the club. He noted that the setlist for BOSM events was curated to be exhilarating in a way that would energise and motivate those participating in the sporting competitions. When asked about giving his audience a sneak peek of what to expect on Day Zero, all he divulged was that a song from Aswekeepsearching—a band which had become quite popular on campus—would be played during the show.
Sheelvrat noted that his biggest challenge this time had been ensuring coordination among his workforce of approximately 50 artists to bring the two shows to life. He further added that Gurukul primarily worked with the Department of Sounds, since good sound production was instrumental to giving justice to the efforts put in by the artists. With last year’s Dhwani having attracted around a thousand attendees, this year was all set to witness a footfall north of 1200, he said.
Reflecting some more on the high number of recruits inducted by Gurukul this year, he remarked that this was not a premeditated decision from the club, but rather one that had been necessitated by the sheer amount of talent that had come with the batch of 2026. On whether other music clubs on campus caused them to bleed talent, he remarked that it had not happened, and that Gurukul and Music Club have largely mutually exclusive performers this time, both groups being of equal quality.
Finally, he said that being coordinator had taught him leadership, time management, and most importantly, how to deal with random situations. A term he coined with his father—he claimed his ‘figureoutability’ had become significantly better. He urged everyone to attend every event and remarked that Gurukul was really excited to amass a huge crowd. ‘It’s definitely going to be an insane time,’ he concluded.
