The Oasis English Press reached out to Madhav Nath Khanna, the coordinator of Gurukul, to speak about their preparation for the 50th edition of Oasis.
When asked about the events Gurukul will be organising this fest, Madhav shared that they have three events lined up—Ecstasy, Drum Duels, and Free Jam. While Ecstasy and Drum Duels are competitions for solo guitarists and drummers respectively, Free Jam is an open mic event. Preparations for Oasis began early for Gurkul as procuring instruments was a vital issue.
Gurukul makes sure to put a lot of effort into practising songs until they are perfect. Madhav felt that his experience as a coordinator had been stressful, but very rewarding, especially since all their semester-round events very received positively.
Gurukul was founded by the 2006 batch. It started as a club where members could learn and teach music to their peers through their workshops. Owing to COVID-19, these erstwhile regular workshops had been stalled for a while, and Madhav aimed to bring them up in the interest of all BITSians.
Calling Gurukul a ‘chill place’ where members could jam together, Madhav concluded the interview by hoping that all BITSians would remember their club’s events as the highlight of the 50th Oasis.
