Haryana Cultural Association

With the BITS Open Sports Meet (BOSM) just around the corner, the BOSM English Press (BEP) invited Yash Jain, president of the Haryana Cultural Association (HCA), to talk about their involvement in BOSM.

Speaking of the events organised, Yash said that HCA has two legacy events which they’ve been conducting for many past editions of BOSM—Kabaddi and Tug of War. Unfortunately, kabaddi is not being organised this year because the kabaddi pit has been filled up and made into a skating rink, leaving Tug of War to be their only event.

Yash said that it would be a fun, simple event requiring only a rope and friends to play with, and a lot of participation was expected. He commented that it is a ticketed event, with the tentative price being INR. 70 per ticket, which will be confirmed or altered after the budget meets with the CoSSAc. Regarding these meets, Yash said that the CoSSAc does not pose a lot of issues when deciding ticket prices and other related matters. He stated this was because  HCA has been organising smaller-scale events for a long time, and knows how to do well enough, so external influence isn’t required.

When asked about the challenges faced in organising the event, Yash said that it had been quite smooth sailing for them in this edition of BOSM, with no major problems coming up. He mentioned that the events organised by them have deep roots in Indian culture, having been the favourite pastimes of the Indian youth for a long time, and he hoped that the GBM would reflect this belief and show up in large numbers.
