The Hindi Activities Society (HAS) is organizing events for the first time in BOSM. While HAS has conducted events like N2O, Standup Soapbox, and Bluffmaster in other fests, presenting an app-based sports quiz is a new challenge they’ve decided to take up this BOSM.
Despite not having an official co-ordinator for BOSM, the club has made significant progress towards conducting their sports quiz. Sachin Tripathi, a senior member at the club, tells us that members across all years are working together to make a successful entry into BOSM. Brainstorming to decide the format of the quiz is going on with full vigour.
On being asked why they decided to participate in BOSM this year, Sachin told us that the CoSSAc requested them to organize a crowd-pulling event in Gym-G. Although the club had plans for participating in BOSM even before being approached, the CoSSAc‘s request gave them a concrete direction to work.
‘We approached the Coding Club to develop an app as a platform to conduct the quiz, but they suggested integrating it with the official BOSM app. This helps increase the reach of both the app and the event,’ says Sachin.
The quiz is expected to consist of ten different rounds based on areas like sports personalities, sports movies, etc. An OTP code will be read out on the stage in Gym-G, following which the quiz commences. The top five participants on the leaderboard will then be called on to the stage for a rapid-fire round. The prizes haven’t yet been decided, but are expected to be vouchers or sponsorship goodies.
The decision to make the BOSM app compulsory for all participants this year is expected to help the publicity of the event. However, HAS is leaving no stone unturned as they plan on putting up posters, QR download links, and social media messages to publicize their unique app-based event. They are even preparing to conduct the event offline in the unfortunate case that the app experiences technical glitches.
On being asked whether the event will be in Hindi, Sachin tells us that HAS has moved forward from Hindi-based activities to more general, cultural ones. ‘We used to conduct Hindi-based events like Has-ya Kavi Sammelan six to seven years ago and more such events during APOGEE. But those events seemed redundant to the fest and were hence dropped. We have evolved since then, and are currently working on a new name for our club. We should have one by Oasis this year,’ says Sachin.
In parting, Sachin asked us to look forward to both the app-based event—which according to him is unique—and the revamped events that the club will be conducting from now on.
