Hindi Activities Society (HAS)

The coordinator of the Hindi Activities Society (HAS), Satvik Beli, spared some time from his busy schedule to sit with the APOGEE English Press and detail the activities of the club.

Giving a brief description of the workings of HAS, Satvik mentioned that HAS is a very fest-specific club. HAS is organising two major events for APOGEE 2024: N2O and Mindkraft. N2O is their ‘Killer Comedy Night’, which occurs towards the end of every fest. The other event organised by the club, Mindkraft, is a quiz based on visual cues. Satvik stated that the quiz intended to provide the participants a lot of fun.

Talking more about N2O, Satvik stated that the event is the club’s flagship comedy night, and that HAS handles everything related to it — from signings to hospitality. He remarked that this time, they had put up a star-studded lineup comprising well-known titans of comedy, Samay Raina and Aakash Mehta. Satvik stated that the HAS is expecting a higher footfall than last year and acknowledged that due to the existing popularity of the comedians, the demand for tickets would be quite high. He stated that HAS is expecting the auditorium to be completely packed due to the high demand for tickets.

Elaborating about MindKraft, Satvik described it as ‘an extremely fun quiz where participants will be shown some photographs, and then they will have to guess certain things with the help of these photos.’ According to him, a lot of participants have usually shown up for the event previously, and he is expecting the same trend to continue being followed. Satvik stated that they will also make an attempt to incorporate this year’s theme into MindKraft.

The coordinator of HAS said that preparatory work began back in December of last year when he was trying to negotiate contracts with the artists to come and perform at the college. Following that, the entire club got involved in carrying out its responsibilities related to the event. He stated that they first began with the signings for N2O, followed by the preparation for MindKraft, and finally managing everything related to the final day of N2O. This is accompanied by other small tasks such as publicity through emails and posters, making presentations for MindKraft, and a plethora of other such minor tasks,

Talking about the challenges faced by the club in their preparation, Satvik mentioned that the biggest issue they faced was the recruitment of juniors to form the workforce for HAS. He stated that HAS does not have a formal recruitment process and recruits juniors by taking interactions, which could be quite cumbersome. Satvik also spoke about the evolution of the club in front of his eyes. He stated that in previous batches, HAS used to just meet to carry out their tasks for the events, in a formal, professional environment. However, now HAS has evolved into more of a community, where apart from carrying out their duties, the members frequently meet and hang out, ‘genuinely enjoying each other’s company.’

Talking about his expectations from this fest, Satvik mentioned that he expects this APOGEE this year to go smoothly for them. He is not expecting any problems with regard to the number of signings and participation in their events. He believes that, compared to last year, this year’s APOGEE is far better considering the number of events taking place and how dedicated the CoStAA is. When asked about his experience as the coordinator for HAS, Satvik described the experience as ‘enriching’. He mentioned that as the coordinator, the responsibility of the entire club was ‘on his head’. There was a possibility of doing anything, and he could change the entire structure of the club. He finally stated that the experience was quite new to him since every decision to be taken was in his hands.

In his message to the general BITSian reading this article, Satvik urged everyone to attend N2O and MindKraft. He gave his assurance that ‘the events were going to be amazing’ and asked everyone to ‘please come for the events.’
