The Oasis English Press sat down with Chinmay Pushkar, the Coordinator of the Hindi Drama Club (HDC), to learn more about their participation for Oasis ‘24.
Chinmay explained that every year, HDC alternated between participating in the stage play and street play events conducted by the Department of Theatre. This year, they would be participating in the stage play event with a 60-minute long crime thriller. Chinmay further noted that the club would not be conducting any event because they wanted to focus entirely on their production.
Chinmay revealed that they started preparing for the fest during the summer vacation. This included beginning the ideation and writing process. Upon reaching campus, they started the rehearsal process. He added that they practised three to four hours everyday from the beginning of the semester.
When asked about the challenges they faced during the preparation, he revealed that auditorium access for more days would have greatly helped with rehearsals. Coming to his expectations from Oasis this year, Chinmay stated that they had won the street play event last year and the stage play event the year prior to that. As such, this Oasis was special for the club since it would be a hat-trick if they win, he shared. He added that although there is some pressure, the work done by their seniors served as a good motivation for the team.
Talking about his experience as a Coordinator, Chinmay said that he had a very fruitful and amazing tenure. As a concluding remark, he encouraged BITSians to enjoy all kinds of performing arts this Oasis, whether it be dance, music or drama.
