With Oasis just a couple of weeks away, members of the Department of Informalz can be found at SAC, furiously working and ideating. With five events and a structure to manage and complete, it was a rather harried Satyaki Roy that finally agreed to an interview.
The department has always been a hub of creativity and a vivid imagination can be thought of as a prerequisite to join in. Brainstorming event ideas is a rather exhausting job, and most pre-fest work includes getting the events ready. “We took inspiration from sources of fiction, discussed them and came up with novel ideas,” said Satyaki.
The events consist of the Treasure Hunt, a New Event (no name yet), the Entertainment Quiz, Mr and Mrs Oasis and the Beg Borrow Steal event. To the delight of Pokemon fans, a Shiny Mega Rayquaza is set to be unveiled as the new structure this year.
When asked about his experience as a coordinator, Satyaki claimed that it was rather hectic, but a very enjoyable experience. Indeed, organizing and micro-managing five events is no mean feat, and Satyaki has managed it admirably.
The biggest hurdle faced by the Department is the lack of time, as bad scheduling has forced the department to churn up ideas at a rapid pace. The lack of experience making structures is also an issue, as current members lack the required expertise to design and make the figure.
“Realms of Fiction” provides a lot of scope for ideation and the potential for events is endless. With a dedicated workforce and Satyaki at the helm, Informalz is all set to put up a good show.
