The Innovation Hub was established as part of the Birla Science Museum in 2017, with the aim to provide students with modern facilities to nurture their ideas and innovations. It is hidden in plain sight, underneath the GD Birla Memorial—its entrance is just to the left of the staircase used for snaps. Some of the facilities available here are not available anywhere else in Pilani, which is why students from colleges across the town—such as BKBIET—come here to work on their projects.
Past the entrance lies the Resource Centre, an e-library of resources, along with a hall of fame consisting of various inspirational stories of famous scientists and innovators. Further ahead lies the Computer Zone with rows of computers with the latest technology and some high-performance processors. There is also a Virtual Reality (VR) headset connected to one of the computers, which is capable of developing and running VR-based applications. A 3D printer has also been moved here recently and is now available for students to use.
The Innovation Hub also provides various other facilities such as a soundproof room with professional-grade microphones and sound mixing equipment, and a workshop. There is also an auditorium that can accommodate as many as 80 people.
Students can also pitch their ideas to the Idea Box for direction and help with procuring of the necessary components. For example, this year, Mime Club created Arduino-controlled LED lights that they used in their act during the inauguration ceremony of Oasis. Many projects for events such as APOGEE, go through the Idea Box.
All the facilities of the Innovation Hub, including its sound recording studio, are available to students for ₹500 for six months. The Innovation Hub is unmatched in what it has to offer at this price.
