Jeopardy

The Department of Informalz conducted Jeopardy—a quiz based on the classic game show—in ET on Day 2 of APOGEE. Mustansir Mama and Naveen Unnikrishnan won the quiz with 265 points in the finals, with Vishal Rangarajan and Samksha Bhardwaj coming in second with 180 points.

The preliminary round consisted of 26 written questions which saw a participation of around 30 teams, with 8 teams qualifying for the finals. Due to technical issues with the buzzers, teams had to download an app on their phone as a substitute. The audience had dwindled down to only 2 people by the time the final round started.

The finals had two full Jeopardy-style rounds, with each full round consisting of five themed sub-rounds. Each sub-round had four questions, with points progressively increasing for each question. The second round, called Double Jeopardy, had all questions worth double the points. There was a mix of wide ranging topics for sub-rounds—such as “Misconceptions” and “Origins”—as well as extremely specific sub-rounds such as “Women in British Rock Music in the 1970s”.

The quiz also had three “Daily Double” questions in which teams could gamble with their points and stand a chance to double what they bet. The last question of the quiz turned out to be a Daily Double question, and this offered a team the chance to bag second place. However, they failed to answer correctly and lost all the points that they had bet.

Overall, Jeopardy stayed true to its promise of being a fun experience for both quizzers and non-quizzers alike.
