The coordinator of the newly formed Karaoke Club, Sanyam Jain, talked to the English Press Club about its formation, organization, and future. The Karaoke Club was established at the recently held UC (Union Council) meet after it passed with a two-thirds majority. It was founded by Neha Maheshwari, a day scholar, in mid-September.
The Karaoke Club wishes to provide a platform to support every BITSian who can sing. It wants to provide a means for the people to step out of their comfort zone. The club is yet to pitch an event, but it wishes to organize a karaoke night, and it is considering collaborating with RadioAktiv. The members want to organize a karaoke event this APOGEE, similar to the open-mic event organized at M-Lawns in APOGEE 2019.
The Karaoke club does not have a well-defined recruitment process and everybody can attend their sessions. To be a part of the club, all one needs to have is dedication and an appreciation for music. The club has a mentor-based setup, in which each batch of four recruits has a mentor, who gives them guidance on vocal skills.
According to Sanyam, the club currently doesn’t have any hierarchy. However, they are planning to have a coordinator for APOGEE 2020. They plan to have two additional coordinators: one to gather sponsorship, and another to publicize their events. The club also wishes to get a permanent space to conduct their sessions.
Being a coordinator has been an exciting experience for Sanyam, who has always wanted to help the club grow. It has been a great learning experience for him, especially through pitching ideas for sponsorship and conducting events. The work ethic displayed by the senior members and the new recruits, who are willing to invest time to both hone their personal vocal skills as well as to work for the club, has consolidated his faith in the club. Sanyam ended by asking BITSians to give the Karaoke Club a chance by participating in their events.
