Armageddon

Armageddon is the gaming extravaganza of APOGEE organized by the Gaming Club. This event features games like FIFA, CS: GO, PUBG, and Rainbow Six Siege (R6S). FIFA uses the 2018 or 2019 versions of the game with a half time length of 5-6 minutes. Teams of two are to contest each other at either “World Class” or “Legendary” level of difficulty. Detailed instructions and rules for registering a team in the CS: GO and R6S competitions are provided in the official website of the fest. The club has tried to increase the participation in the event by taking advantage of the huge fan-following for the mobile-game PUBG. The winning team of every PUBG match is expected to receive an amount of ₹1500 as the winning-prize. Additionally, the runner-up team gets a free entry into the next match, while the second runner-up can enter subsequent matches at discounted prices.

International Coding League

Competitive coding is a mind sport where the participants are expected to solve logical and mathematical problems using a programming language. It has emerged as a passion among the sharpest mindsof the country and is recognised and supported by software multinationals like Google and Facebook. This APOGEE, BITS-ACM presents the International Coding League, a coding competition to be held along the lines of the ACM ICPC. It is a three-hour long online competition where the best minds from all over the country will face off to solve around five to six algorithmic problems. The participants are expected to use either of C, C++, JAVA or PYTHON to write their codes.

Machine Learning Hackathon

The road to delving into the world of Artificial Intelligence by solving real-life problems is opened through the Machine Learning Hackathon. This APOGEE, BITS-ACM presents an opportunity to work with real-world datasets and put one’s ML skills to test through this hackathon. Teams of 2-4 members can take part in this event that is expected to last anywhere between 24 and 72 hours.

APOGEE Innovation Challenge

This kernel event introduces students to real-world problems in the industry to help bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. Teams containing up to three members can take part in this event. After downloading the problem statement of their choosing from the APOGEE website, participants are required to submit their solutions in either a video or a presentation format. Teams with the most ingenious solutions stand a chance to get internships, cash prizes, and potential job offers as well.

Business Plan Competition

In this event, entrepreneurs from all over India get a chance to pitch their ideas for a start-up in front of a panel of renowned business mentors and investors. It is open for both students and professionals to showcase their business acumen and win exciting rewards. However, start-ups established over a year ago and those which have already acquired funding would not be eligible to participate.

Stock Market Simulation

BITS-ACM and the Economics and Finance Association join hands in conducting this event that aims at providing future investors a glimpse of stock market trading. All participants are allotted a predefined amount of virtual currency through which they can trade on a web-based app. Apart from the usual demand-supply dynamics, the stock prices of various companies shall also react to relevant news reports released on the app. Multiple stock indices shall be present, and trade in each can only be carried out in their respective currencies.

Robots at War (RAW)

A signature event of many technical festivals across the country, Robots at War has been very popular since its inception. Participants design a remote-controlled bot to combat their opponent and push the rival bot out of the fight zone. Immobilizing the opponent’s robot also results in victory. The robot that survives all face-offs is declared the winner of the event.

RoboSoccer

In this event, participants are expected to demonstrate the ability to manoeuvre and control robots to play a game of soccer. They are required to construct remote-controlled or cord-operated robots which then play in a 4 ft × 8 ft arena. Each team can have one or multiple bots that take part in the game. The competition has a multi-game group stage, followed by semi-finals and finals.

Junkyard Wars

This event is APOGEE’s take on the famous Discovery channel show Junkyard Wars. It puts students’ understanding of mechanical engineering to the ultimate test, as they are to build a vehicle pertaining to a certain problem statement just in 36 hours. However, the challenge is that the model is to be constructed solely using the ‘junk’ provided from the BITS workshop. Previous problem statements have included a trebuchet mechanism that can pick and throw a rag, among other innovative concepts.

Reverse Engineering

Given a used motorcycle part, the participants are expected to deconstruct it to its smallest constituents, draw their CAD models, and then re-assemble the device. Participating teams have been selected after two online rounds—a quiz and a case-study problem. This event tests the participants’ understanding of important engineering concepts like analytical reasoning and the art of deduction.
