Day 2 of BOSM saw the BITS Pilani girls’ tennis team lose both their match-ups to Venky’s and Kanodia respectively.

The BOSM tennis tournament adheres to the Davis Cup format, with teams playing three matches – singles, doubles and reverse singles. A total of six teams registered for the girls’ tournament this year. Matches are played in two pools, with the winners of their respective pools proceeding to the finals. On top of that, an independent mixed doubles tournament has been added to the mix this year.

In the Pool A fixtures, BITS A was matched against Venky’s and Kanodia. In the match-up against Venky’s, Vidhi from BITS Pilani and Mahima from Venky’s faced off in the first match. Mahima made short work of the contest using well aimed shots whilst being assisted by numerous unforced errors from the BITSian player, to win with a final score of 4-0, 4-1.

The doubles match that followed saw new found spirit in the BITSians as Aishwarya and Vidhi put up a better fight against their opponents. However, these attempts at turning the match in their favour went in vain; the home team ended up going down with a final score of 4-2, 4-2.

In the following match-up against Kanodia, Saniya from BITS A played the first singles match against Nisha. The contest ended up in a landslide victory for Kanodia – 4-0, 4-0. The subsequent doubles match – for which Aishwarya and Vidhi teamed up again – saw many aces and trick shots being played. In a significant improval from their previous performance, BITS A put up a good fight, losing with a final score of 4-2,1-4,4-0.

In the Pool B fixtures, Maharani emerged victorious in both their bouts, defeating BITS B and SRCC in the process.  The finals will now see Maharani and Kanodia battle it out for the gold.

Day 2 brought the girls’ tennis team’s run in BOSM 2017 to an end. Despite the loss, the BITSian team seemed happy with their performance. ‘We put up a good fight and every player gave her best. That is more important. We will try our hardest to come back from this loss,’ said Aishwarya after her match against Kanodia.
