As BOSM 2025 draws closer, the Captain of the girls’ lawn tennis team, Sanghmitra Maheshwari, took some time out of her busy schedule to inform the BOSM English Press about their plans for the fest.Â
Sanghmitra explained that tennis could be played either in a singles or a doubles format, and that the rules followed were those of the ATP Tour. A match was divided into three sets, with each set comprising six games. Each game had four points: 15, 30, 40, and a game point. A player needed to win six games to win a set, and two sets to win the match. She further added that the BOSM tennis tournament would follow a round-robin structure. The participating teams would be divided into leagues and play against each other, with the winners and runner-ups of the league matches proceeding to the finals and semi-finals.Â
Sanghmitra stated that the girls’ team consisted of nine players who had all been performing well. She added that they had been practising daily for one and a half hours and focused on their strokes, shots, and matches. Initially, they had focused on perfecting their shots and strokes via rallies, but as BOSM drew closer, they had started focusing more on playing matches to build up their stamina. The dampened court, due to the rain, proved to be a major challenge, she noted.Â
Reminiscing on the previous edition, she informed that they had won the tournament and that their performance had been exceptional. They faced the Sri Venkateshwara College’s team in the finals, defeating them and avenging their loss from the BOSM 2023 finals. Talking about other tournaments, she mentioned that they usually participated in the IIT Roorkee fest and InterBITS.
On a personal note, Sanghmitra shared that tennis brought her happiness and exhilaration in life. She said that her experience as Captain so far had been great and although a position of responsibility brought its own share of problems, she was able to handle them. She added that her experience with the CoSSAc and the admin had also been smooth and that they had been highly cooperative. On a parting note, she encouraged people to explore the world of tennis.
