Martial Arts- Sai Ganesh Santosh Gattu

The BOSM English Press reached out to the Captain of the Martial Arts team, Sai Ganesh Santhosh Gattu, to talk about the team’s preparations for the upcoming fest.

Discussing the diversity of martial arts styles, Sai explained that the team primarily focuses on Taekwondo. He went on to explain how the sport is a Korean martial art focused on fast and high kicks and dynamic movements. He described that players are awarded points for clean strikes to the torso and over the head, with additional points for spinning or jumping techniques.

Sai mentioned that this year’s Taekwondo event would consist of two sub-events. The first being the Kyorugi, a combat sport where two competitors attempt to score points by landing valid strikes on each other. The second is Poomsae, which includes pre-arranged patterns of movements, focusing on fluency, accuracy, and coordination. He further added that the latter is being organised for the first time this year and would consist of three categories— individual, pair, and team, all of which also have their own senior and junior categories.

Sai revealed that although the previous editions of BOSM did not receive sufficient participation from other colleges, the new Poomsae event is expected to attract participation from more renowned colleges like IIT Roorkee, IIT BHU, and Delhi University. Drawing things to a close, Sai talked about how being Captain has been a fulfilling experience and how it has helped him realise the role of leadership by vowing to pass on all his knowledge and skills to his team.
