Coordinator of the Mathematics Association, Pranay Bansal spared a moment from his demanding schedule as he talked to the APOGEE English Press (AEP) about the upcoming technological fest and its events.
Organising events from different quadrants of the competitive plane, the Mathematics Association will be conducting Gambling Mathematics, Sherlock vs Moriarty, and Mathletics as a part of the four-day fest. Gambling Mathematics, their kernel event, will allow students to test their logic and analytical skills in an unusual concoction of gambling and math. ‘We aim to bring out the gamblers in the mathematicians,’ says Pranay. This fest also marks the introduction of two new events from the Mathematics Association, Mathletics and Sherlock vs Moriarty. Sherlock vs Moriarty incorporates this year’s theme–The Encrypted Dimension into its gameplay. In a gripping role reversal, players have the opportunity to play as Moriarty who is now the good guy and fight against the evil Sherlock, leaning into the themes of a flipped dimension.
Talking about his role as coordinator of the association, Pranay spoke about how the experience of guiding and supervising the 2021 batch has been. Faced with the task of handling an event of this scale, students are both excited and nervous to achieve their tasks. ‘They get overwhelmed when they receive work as they have to balance their academics as well. But having experienced this dilemma, we as seniors are here to guide them and help them through this process.’ Pranay stated.
As our tête-à-tête with Pranay drew to a close, he encouraged the students to drop by their stalls during APOGEE and participate in their events regardless of their mathematical prowess. ‘My main focus this event has not been on mathematics but on logic. Questions won’t be pure algebra or calculus, it will be derived logic and applications. It’s more about intuition and exploring your curiosity than just formulas and theorems.’
