Matrix

Matrix, the literature club of BITS Pilani, is a group of enthusiasts who read books, watch movies, and follow TV series, anime etc.

The club, besides organising panel discussions and book reviews throughout the year, conducts many events during Oasis, which includes quizzes and movie screenings.

This year, Matrix plans to create a movie festival, which will include movie screenings of Bruce Almighty, Troy, The Passion of Christ, and The Prince’s Monologue. A Storyboard and Script Writing event and a movie director’s talk are also being worked on.

The movie quiz, however, will remain the “trademark” of Matrix, something that every movie buff would hate to miss. Surprisingly, the preparation for the movie quiz had begun right from the summer vacations to ensure the quiz lives up to its predecessors. The club has also been actively working on its Game of Thrones quiz, which is a challenge for the quiz-makers because they anticipate that the participants may know more about the fad than they themselves do.

Another event being handled by Matrix is the team event Triathalon. The game, Triathalon naturally consists of three rounds – a treasure hunt, a “minimalist” round where the participant has to guess the name of a movie by looking at minimalist posters, and a third round where a person would have to name all the movies that they think are closely associated to an object that has been given to them.

On being asked about his experience as a coordinator, Eshan Tyagi began his answer by saying, ‘Initially I was taking orders, now I’m giving orders. Initially, I used to think that managing logistics and giving orders is a pretty easy job. However, when you are taking orders, there isn’t much you need to think or worry about, however, when it comes to giving orders, you need to think of which order to give in the first place.’

Clearly, the club plans to take its events seriously, and is working hard towards contributing to the success of the fest. ‘Also, you need to make sure that things are implemented properly and the job is completed. We have a good reputation, so we need to make sure everyone does their jobs correctly so that we maintain that reputation. Hence, the quality of the job also matters, besides it being finished within the deadlines.’
