Matrix

The APOGEE English Press sat down with Arav Gupta, the Coordinator of Matrix, the Film and Literature Society of BITS Pilani, to discuss their role in the fest.

Arav explained that the club was born out of a love for the cinematic and the literary. He added that the club functions as a platform for members to meet and share opinions and recommendations about media like movies, shows, and books. He mentioned that the club would meet on weekends and conduct book and movie ‘intros’, where members would pitch a book or movie they read over the weekend to other members. He also mentioned that Matrix conducts movie screenings, open to everyone on campus.

Arav revealed that the club would host two events this fest: a book stall and daily movie screenings throughout the duration of APOGEE. The book stall will allow visitors to purchase as many books as they can fit into a box, with two sizes of boxes on offer. He stated that visitors will not be paying for the books individually, but for the size of the box they manage to fit their collection into. Arav added that the club would also be screening two movies every night around midnight, where one movie would be chosen by the club in adherence with the theme of the fest, and the other would be selected from among many choices by an audience vote. Elaborating on the club’s pre-fest work, Arav said that the key task was communicating with the vendor for the book stall, which was slightly difficult, as they did not receive the payment for the previous edition of Oasis.

On a parting note, Arav asked readers to enjoy the fest, attend the movie screenings, and visit the book stall; he thoroughly hoped they would enjoy the experience.
