With a couple of 24 hour deadlines to adhere to, Sparsh Kasana, the Oasis Coordinator of MATRIX, had a lot on his plate. Despite this, he agreed to talk about the clubs and its plan for OASIS.
MATRIX is the literature and cinema society of BITS, whose members range from cinema-lovers to literature-enthusiasts.
They regularly organize a number of events throughout the year, such as “Open Stages”, where members of the club get together and have discussions on any topic under the sun.
The club also holds “Book Intros”, where members introduce a book, a movie, a TV show or an anime that they found interesting, to the gen BITSian. The club also held a Book Intro based on Neon-Noir as a whole to give the people an idea of the genre.
MATRIX also hosts the popular “The Last Lecture”, a series of events where a professor has to give a speech to his peers and students in the scenario that it is to be his last lecture. The lecture by Professor Shan Sundar Balasubramanian held recently was met with a lot of positive response, as it was in reality his final lecture at BITS.
MATRIX has gone from being a literature-oriented club, to being a platform for nerds to speak their mind on anything that interests them. The club has also begun holding discussions on politics and the impact of literature and cinema in various fields. To quote Sparsh “MATRIX is an amalgamation of various topics with primary focus on literature.”
Though tiring, Sparsh says that the responsibility of coordinator has been an exciting experience. He looks forward to Oasis and expects a lot of positive response for MATRIX’s events. He ended with a shameless plug for MATRIX expressing a desire that everyone attend their movie screenings and the “Triathlon” because “it will be fun”, he eloquently concluded.
