Matrix

The APOGEE English Press sat down with Rudrayan, coordinator of MATRIX, the Film and Literature Society at BITS Pilani. This APOGEE, the club will be organizing a book sale event called “BookChor” and a midnight science-fiction movie screening at rotunda, keeping in line with the fest theme.

Regarding “BookChor”, he said people can buy a carton for a fixed price and fill it with as many books as they can fit into it. This event has been conducted by several companies like Lock the Box, and For Bookstore in major cities over the last five to six years. Rudrayan described the concept as “cute” and encouraged students to bring their wings along and optimise the number of books they can buy.

When asked about the challenges faced by the club, Rudrayan explained that they were not attempting any feats beyond their comfort level. However, logistical challenges are expected for a highly anticipated event like Casino Night, which is being conducted in collaboration with the Department of Informal Events.

Describing the club culture Rudrayan stated ‘All our seniors and all my batchies, we know each other very well. We sort of are essentially a very big friend circle and it’s great working with these guys.’ The team regularly engages in film and book discussion sessions every two or three weeks, which serve as great bonding opportunities. They also hold open mic events, where everyone is encouraged to share their thoughts on a particular film or book they have read during the week.

When asked if he had a message for the BITSian community, Rudrayan humorously stated that if one wants to hold up their image as a non-practicing intellectual, one might want to check out their events.
