Matrix

With Oasis ‘24 just around the corner, the Oasis English Press sat down with the Oasis Coordinator, Nishit Singh, and the club President, Adhvaith KS, to discuss the contributions of the club to the upcoming fest.

Nishit explained that Matrix was the cinema and literature club with a rich legacy dating back to the 2000s. Matrix mostly conducted film screenings, discussions, quizzes, and book reviews.

Nishit shared that Matrix would be conducting two independent events this year. The first one was a Film Festival, an event where multiple film screenings would occur. He mentioned that four films would be screened this year, the logistics of which are yet to be finalised. The second event would be a quiz covering the domains of a variety of film genres. In addition, Adhvaith mentioned that Matrix would be collaborating with The Department of Informal Events (Informalz) for Casino Night. He revealed it to be a two-day event wherein students could delve into the experience of a real casino with games such as Blackjack, Poker, and Roulette.

When asked about the preparations of the club for the fest, Adhvaith noted that the club began its preparations a week before the fest. He said that the work mostly included setting up the equipment for the film screenings and preparing the questions for the quizzes. Nishit mentioned that the major issue that the club had faced was the lack of recognition, especially after the pandemic. He affirmed that the club has done a successful job of bringing its fame back in recent years and will continue to put in efforts to keep its reputation alive.

Adhvaith revealed that the members, bound together by their love of cinema, are generally compliant and find the work allotted to them to be enjoyable. Nishit explained that his work as Coordinator had been relatively pleasant, with the work mostly revolving around designing merchandise and coordinating the events.

On a final note, Nishit and Adhvaith urged everyone to take part in their events and come together to enjoy the world of cinema.
