The Oasis English Press sat down with Parth Rana, the Coordinator of the Mime Club, to discuss their plans and learn what they will be doing for the upcoming fest.
This year, the club had organised four acts during the opening ceremony of Oasis: one video presentation, two stage acts, and one special act where they tried to perform something akin to French mime. Apart from these, they also planned to organise events like Pun Wars and Improv and had collaborated with ComHub to host an Open Mic event.
Parth emphasised that the main thing kept in mind while creating the acts was to incorporate humour in a manner that was relatable to the audience, be it BITSians or the people visiting from other colleges. For events like Pun Wars, Parth mentioned that these were prepared with the intention of being fun and relaxing for the participants and did not generate any revenue.
When questioned about who inspired the work they do, Parth said that they did not look up to anyone in particular. He added that they tried to combine the best elements of many artists and popular characters such as Baburao and Piyush Mishra. Parth mentioned that having a thorough plan right from the beginning had ensured that the club was confident about their performance in Oasis.
According to Parth, the biggest challenge was to get permission from the higher-ups to acquire the required funds and equipment for their performances and events. Speaking on his experience as a Coordinator, Parth stated that the opportunity had helped him hone his communication and management skills. ‘Be it theatre, stage play, or movies, I try to see why the director has done something and what he wants to show,’ he said.
Parth urged all students to attend the Inauguration Ceremony, He further said that Pun Wars would be a fun and creative event, while Improv would be a true test of one’s confidence in their speaking skills.
