The Oasis English Press sat down with Arnav Nevgi, the Coordinator of the Mime Club, to discuss their upcoming fest activities.
According to Arnav, the Mime Club was formed to ‘make people laugh’ and give the fest a ‘great start’ at the Inauguration. This year, the Mime Club had prepared four acts: two stage acts, one quirky special act, and a video act.
Arnav explained that apart from this, the Mime Club was to host two separate events: Pun Wars and Sketch Comedy, both of which revolve around quick-thinking quips. The club has conducted these events for the past 5 years.
When asked about the timeline followed by the club, Arnav mentioned that the club started preparing for the upcoming fest a month into the semester for the stage acts. The last few days leading up to the fest were spent in fine-tuning the script and ensuring nothing was ‘too offensive’. Logistical work included making placards, bringing props, and marketing.
Arnav elaborated on the inner workings of the club by explaining that the Mime Club has three verticals: Acting, Sounds, and Video. To ensure smooth coordination among verticals, the Club has two Joint-Coordinators, in addition to the Coordinator, who manage Acting and Sounds. While scripting, creative differences between the verticals are resolved through proper communication.
To come up with ideas for the Stage Acts, Arnav said that the Club conducted daily brainstorming sessions where members from all years contributed equally. He added that the preparation of the fest had been smooth with no setbacks so far.
On a concluding note, Arnav said that in his experience, a BITSian should not consider club work as a hindrance to academics, but rather an avenue to prosper holistically. He urged all BITSians to attend the ‘very entertaining’ Inauguration stage acts.Â
