The Oasis English Press sat down with Vyom Sharma, the coordinator of the Music Club, to learn more about the club and its preparations for Oasis.
Music is an indispensable highlight of any event and the band, set to be the opening act at the Oasis Inauguration, will be presenting a medley of Linkin Park classics with a twist, serving a dash of nostalgia from the past in keeping with the fest’s theme. Furthermore, the club will be organising its insignia event, Andholika, a singing competition. It will also be taking part in another kernel event, Tarang, a fusion extravaganza of bands spanning multiple genres.
As one of the oldest clubs on campus, Vyom said that the Music Club has evolved, in resources and skills, to incorporate new musical styles and ignite new artists. ’The lull during the pandemic has helped us experiment with new genres and become more proficient with practice’, Vyom said. Vyom added that the pandemic, however, posed a few challenges for the club, which included the inexperience of 2020-2022 batches with live stage performances. He assured that the club is working hard to overcome this. He said that the members of the club have already performed several shows throughout this year. Preparations for the fest are already in motion, with a fresh batch recruited and members practising for 3-4 hours a day. The club is also conducting soundchecks and auditorium practices to familiarise the members with the stage and to avoid sound issues on the day of the performance.
Despite the hectic schedule, Vyom considers his role as coordinator to be fulfilling and hopes to maintain the legacy of the music club. Towards the end of the interview, Vyom expressed his confidence in the club’s ability to pull through tight schedules and leave a pleasant chime in the audience through their music.
