Music Club

The Oasis English Press sat down with Nakul Gupta, the coordinator of Music Club, to get an in-depth view of the workings of the club, as well as to view the concoctions cooked up by them for Oasis ‘23.

Nakul explained that the Music Club would be organising two events for Oasis ‘23; the first being the inauguration performance, and the second being Andholika, which is a singing competition.

Nakul added that this year, the venue for Andholika had been changed, and the format had also been altered to make things a bit more fun as a competition. Nakul said that the club was working hard for the inauguration performance. He also added that since musicians, as well as other musically involved people, would be coming to witness it, the club had to show that their performance would be up to the mark.

When asked about the ‘23 batch, Nakul stated that they were like unpolished gems, waiting to shine. He said that he had really high hopes for them and that they had been performing well, so the workload had not been as hard as it used to be.

Nakul said that he found his experience as a coordinator to be filled with challenges, the main one being organising the events, as the batch size of the Music Club had never been as big as it was currently, with around 45 active members. Other than those issues, Nakul said that it was going pretty smoothly.

When prompted about interesting titbits regarding the workings of the Music Club, Nakul mentioned that while the Music Club had been very closed off to the general student body, an interesting tradition of it was the importance of punctuality in the club. ‘Everyone is expected to show up right on the dot, and practice always starts at the mentioned time. No BST at all’, Nakul said.

When Nakul was asked for advice on how the general public could learn an instrument, he simply stated to pick an instrument, listen to as many songs as possible, and try to replicate them. He also said that aside from his instrument of choice (guitar), he always has had an affinity for the Indian flute.

Nakul concluded by saying that the Music Club was doing their very best to give a great performance and that he hoped to see everyone there having fun.
